The Negro Page

When I look at this image I immediately notice a difference in social status. The first thing I noticed is that the two men are dressed in a way that flaunts wealth. They are also on the side with the horses instead of the same side as the little boy. Whereas the boy is dressed with less nobility. He is also on the side with the other animals in this image. To me this creates the imagery that he is being compared to being in the same position as these animals. I only say this because back when there were African slaves they were treated and compared to animals. They were only used to do the work that the wealthy wanted them to do. Back then Africans were below others and had to do with others had to say in order survive. If they didn’t there were many consequences.
