The Bluest Eye: Afterward

When Morrison mentions this I believe that she means that beauty comes from within not from what was perceived. In this case I feel that this was mentioned to correlate with Pecola. Pecola wanted blue eyes so much that it made her go crazy. She thought everyone ignored her because they were jealous. We see this when she talks with her imaginary friend. Pecola continuously talks about her blue eyes and how her eyes were the bluest of them all. Then we see how she continuously makes her imaginary friend tell her that her eyes are the bluest. Morrison used this as example to tell us that beauty comes from within and we should not try to be like anyone but ourselves. Pecola could not find beauty in herself so she looked for it elsewhere. As a result we see how trying hard to be someone your not can drive a person crazy. Overall, Morrison mention’s this quote to explain Pecola’s experiences.
